In Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower, the lead character Lauren Olamina creates a philosophy that is rooted in the idea that God is Change. She writes in her journal, which she titles Earthseed: The Books of the Living---her ideas and dreams for herself, her community and all of humanity---that become the basis of how she leads people through her deep sensitivity in badass ways through apocalyptic times.

I read Parable of the Sower after coming in contact with adrienne maree brown's work Emergent Strategy, where they ask the reader to study Octavia Butler first, citing her as the lineage and inspiration for their work. It was during the early days of leaving my Engineering Manager job in tech.

I was stunned in the best way when I read Octavia Butler's writing, where she foretells the current times we are living in with stark accuracy and found myself relating with Lauren Olamina---as someone that dreams worlds beyond fascism in my mind and is highly sensitive and empathic. And I loved this idea that God is Change.

A victim of God may,
through learning adaption,
become a partner of God,
A victim of God may,
through forethought and planning,
become a shaper of God.
Or a victim of God may,
through shortsightedness and fear,
remain God's victim,
God's plaything,
God's prey.
- Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower

My whole life has been a school for change. From studying in 6 different schools to living in four countries. From being married in a cis-het relationship to coming out as queer then as transgender. Going through transition and literally molting my skin to reshape myself and birth myself. From working in tech as Software Engineer to leading people as an Engineering Manager to coaching, writing and intersectional practice where I birth my own frameworks, books and offerings.

Most of the time, change isn't a voluntary choice that we step into. It happens to us. We are rarely ready when it does. When life throws stuff at me, I continue to experience the shock of not wanting to let go of what I thought was mine in order to step into what the change is calling me towards. Sad feelings, tears and grief follow.

What I've noticed from my intentional practice of getting curious about what lives inside the discomfort, the shock, the shame, the worry, the anxiety and the grief that comes up in the face of major change---is that the more I can sit with it and be present, the more information my body gives me about my deepest desires.

What if periods of uncertainty and change in your life became profound opportunities for meeting your most creative self? What if we could open ourselves up to the gifts that change can bring, and did not have to hold on so tightly to everything we have today out of fear?

How will you become a partner of Change?

This is your invitation to tap into the power of your inner guidance through Transgressive Adaptation*.

Create with the world: embrace the power of shaping Change, is a workshop for tech professionals with creative interests, who desire to ground in the deeper wisdom of the land in times of fascism, climate change and poly-crises.

In this workshop, you will learn to tap into the wisdom held within feelings of scarcity, uncertainty, hopelessness or doubt about the future—that currently keep you from your innate creativity and leadership strengths—so that you can open up into a playful partnership with change and a practice of hope for the future rooted in reciprocal relationship to the land.

We will go on a journey of Transgressive Adaptation, through guided experiential practice and self coaching prompts to nurture your inner wisdom, so more of your creativity can come out and play.

What you'll get:

  • Attend the 90 minute live online workshop on Oct 10, 2026 at 1pm Pacific time, where you'll get to share space with people like you who dream of a slower, interconnected, creative life. On camera participation during is welcome and optional, there will always be ways to participate async via chat.
