Make It Big

A love poem for the tired and cramped soul

Make it big, they say
A dream trusted upon every immigrant
Moving to a place that's never quite home
An endless game we start to play
Capitalism doesn't sway

Make it big, they say
Save millions on your morning coffee
Just look right, stay meek and lean in
Work those side hustles and make bank
If Mark can do it so can you

Make it big, they say
You'll know when you have a house and a car
Other mammals, rooms filled with toy camels
When your plates are void of carbs excess
And you can zip up that size zero dress

We shut their voices out
Our existence is beautiful
Our worth is inherent
Our families are chosen
We eat the food that fills our souls
Wear the clothes that embrace our curves
Make it big, we say.
